(May 11, 2005) Comalapa, El Salvador ñ Armed only with a grimace, Master At Arms Second Class Joshua Gober holds his breath, as stream of pepper-spray is delivered directly to his face during non lethal weapons training. The Masterís At Arms of United States Southern Command Cooperative Security Location (Southcom CSL), El Salvador, train annually in the different methods of attack and defense of non lethal weapons. They are sprayed in the face from a distance of ten feet and then they run to a series of stations set up to test their skills while the effects of the pepper spray set in. The use of pepper spray is to gain respect for it as a weapon as not to use it unnecessarily and also to learn how to defend against an attacker while blinded from its effects.
